That’s a wrap on my found-footage horror film It Waits at the Lodge! Filmed the final scene tonight. Now the terrifying post-production process begins…
I do have to say, though, it was quite an interesting experience filming my first full-length film (well, hopefully - the goal is at least a 40-minute runtime, which qualifies as a feature film at at least some film festivals and film award shows). There's so much I want to say about it, but there's still so much work to be done (most notably, editing all the dang footage and making it run like an actual movie haha). But I do have to say, I was inspired to post this blog post because there's something about wrapping up filming for a large-ish film project that very much feels like finishing up the first draft of a book. Like, there's that same emotional feeling of "I accomplished something," even though in both cases there's still SOOOOO much more work to do lol (for example, even after a book draft, you still need to edit, polish, and maybe even revise based off critique partner and beta reader feedback and what not before calling it a day).
On further reflection, when you complete filming a film or finish a book draft, for one, you obviously have the story fleshed out, and secondly, you also have the execution completed. For example, a book or novel's execution is the description, prose, play on words, etc., whereas a film's execution is the acting, camera angles, etc. So, really, in both instances you have both the brunt and heart of the work done, so I think that's at least partly why it feels like an accomplishment. Anyway, on to editing the footage for my film, but FIRST - I plan on releasing a Between Dark and Light book and maybe writing a bit more, THEN I'm going to hit film editing. Wish me luck - until next time!
